Q : What is a SMART repair?
A : With ChipsAway’s unique SMART (Small to Medium Area Repair Technology) repair system, we can paint small areas such as scuffs, scratches and chips without re-painting the entire panel, which means you can have car repairs carried out to minor damage on your paintwork:

Q: How do you match the colour?
A: There is normally a colour code located on the vehicle (exact location varies with the make and model) from which we can enter the code into a computer database. The computer supplies us with a formula giving the base colours needed and exact quantities in which to mix them.
Q: Will the colour match?
A: The paint is matched exactly to your specific vehicle using colour chips which show variants even of the same colour code. The paint is then mixed using highly accurate scales which measure to one hundredth of a gram!
Q : Do you use manufacturers' paint?
A : A common misconception is that the manufacturers manufacture their own paint. They don't, they manufacture cars but use paint from paint manufacturers such as ICI, Dupont, PPG to name but a few. Chipsaway Louis Wan has access to both Dupont and PPG based paint systems. The paint has been specially modified to be sprayed outside of a spray booth (they contain no toxic isocyanates) and can be used in a variety of weather conditions.
Q : Are the repairs guaranteed?
A : ChipsAway Louis Wan will always offer a full satisfaction guarantee. We welcome discerning customers as your car is usually your second most valuable asset besides your house and deserves the best treatment to preserve it's value. ChipsAway as a company offer a two year paint and application warranty. If for any reason you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask.
Q : How much do you charge?
A : A question we get asked a lot. It is impossible to answer the question without obviously seeing the nature of the work/damage and knowing the number of areas to be repaired. Factors which will influence cost include the size of the repair, colour, deformation (need for fiiller etc) mostly influencing the time and work necessary to complete the repair. ChipsAway Louis Wan can usually offer discounts for larger volumes of work, for example 2 bumper scuffs and other work conducted at the same time. It is best to either call or send us an e-mail to describe the damage. ChipsAway Louis Wan will normally be able to give an online quote if you enclose a digital picture. When sending pictures, please send a close up of the damage (from different angles if possible) and a zoomed out picture showing the damage in relation to the rest of the vehicle. It is useful to include in your description, the make, model and colour of your vehicle. The exact colour name is not crucial, just a basic description e.g. light metallic silver, dark blue metallic, bright red e.t.c.
Q : How long do will the repair take?
A : It depends on the volume and nature of the work carried out. As a general guide, a single bumper scuff will take around 2.5 to 3 hours (it may be longer for larger scuffed or deformed bumper). Stone chip repairs or scratch removal by polishing and/or touching in will generally be completed within the hour (again dependant on the volume of them. Q : Why is your quote more than the one quoted by XYZ Smart repair Ltd (a fictitious rival company name)?
A : In the vast majority of jobs you will find our quotes highly competitive. However as in the case of most services you will find you will get what you pay for. In most cases it is important to look at what repair methods will be used. A lot of smart repair companies will offer a repair that, from a distance looks good, however on closer inspection has a lot of grainy texture, often feels rough to the touch and even worse there is a lot of overspray over adjacent panels/windows. This is often how other rivals are able to get the quote cheaper by saving time/materials on masking, not spending sufficient time on finishing and polishing the repair. The finished repair may at best prematurely dull, at worse degrade and peel if applied too quickly, although it will appear fine immediately after repair. Other time saving tricks that are used, are not cleaning the panels (sprayed over bugs!), failure to de-grease the panels before repair, not bothering to key the panels sufficiently which may cause the paint to peel prematurely. Q : What forms of payment do you accept?
A : We accept cash, cheques, debit and credit cards (visa and mastercard). We do not accept American Express. For credit and debit cards the current processing fee is £5.00 plus VAT (processing fee levied by ChipsAway HO and administered by Adelante.)
